Removing the Veil of Privilege from Mentorship

Cal Poly Pomona is among the best public universities in the West and is nationally ranked for helping students achieve economic success. As an inclusive polytechnic university, the school cultivates success through experiential learning, discovery and innovation.

Part of this dynamic student support system is peer mentoring, but with boutique, in-house programs, the school’s Academic Affairs and Student Affairs divisions often felt that they missed the large population of first-generation identifying students that could benefit most. Through the mentorship platform and team support of Mentor Collective, Cal Poly Pomona is able to sustainably support over 2,000 mentorships, an increase of over 1,200% in the number of students served.

Watch on-demand to learn the metrics and design behind Cal Poly Pomona’s successful Bronco Navigators peer mentorship program with Mentor Collective.

Watch On-Demand To:

  • Discover the benefits and best practices of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs collaborating on peer mentorship. Can one division handle it all? Should they have to?
  • Explore what first-generation student support looks like at Cal Poly Pomona and how large-scale peer mentorship is helping students navigate other campus resources and campus culture.
  • Learn key impact metrics affecting sense of belonging and retention and how peer mentorship leans into the school’s “learn by doing” mission.
